Pinterest

I just joined Pinterest. If you are unfamiliar with Pinterest, it is a website that is based on the idea of a push pin board, where you can post pictures of things and look at other people's boards. It is a great space to share ideas with like minded people. I like it especially for DIY projects, interior design inspiration and recipes. The best is seeing something and then actually bringing it to life.

While I was sick, I saw this awesome library:

And while I don't have sexy built in, dark wood shelves, I do now have my own color coded bookshelf:

My friends Ariel and Ben made a phenomenal dinner last night and topped it off with dessert that Ariel found on Pinterest. A chocolate chip cookie impregnated with an Oreo!  It was SO good. The Oreo got soft and puffy and became one with the chocolate chip cookie.

Inspiration

I'm going shopping for gray paint today. It sounds so boring when I say it like that. But, I found a bunch of GREAT gray bedrooms on Design Sponge. I just hope our room isn't too dark. 

Activities!

Today has been super productive and chock full of activities. Oh, how I love activities!

Does going to Whole Foods count as an activity? If so, thats one... Zach and I also went to our first fashion show, played dress up at Moscot, brewed beer (him), made cookies (me), and I finished up some jewelry projects that I've been working on.

Susanna Rae Fall/Winter 2011 Collection

Zach's friend's girlfriend is Susanne Rae, a designer from Brooklyn, so we had the pleasure of going to her Fall/Winter 2011 show at Lincoln Center. Woweee! Fancy fancy. Great people watching, photogs, a live band, anorexic models, and gorgeous clothes. Why are fashion shows not a regular part of my life? The theme was kind of victorian gone grunge and the gowns w/ open and racer backs and heavy on the trim were really what got me. I may have fallen in love with one white gown in particular.

Fashion shows are definitely something I need to do more of. How is it that I'm 26 and just getting to my first one, while this precious little munchkin is already in glittery sneaks and filming the show on an iPhone? P.S. I took the pic when her mom wasn't looking. Like a creep. 

This kid is going to do big things in life. 

Tonight we got busy with some role playing. As brewmaster and jeweler ;) I'd like to say I helped, but it was mostly Zach working on a batch of IPA, while I finished up a long overdue ring and tie pin.

Kitchen

My kitchen in the Bronx was the bomb. I may have lived in the 'hood, but my kitchen was more than I could've asked for. I got very comfortable channeling Rachel Ray, with my friends gathered around the island, some chopping apples for apple crisp (thanks Melis!), some chatting (and not chopping... Ian), slugging sipping vino and making dinner.

I have since moved and absolutely love my apartment. I'm sure you can tell from previous posts that I love my neighborhood as well. My kitchen however, isn't what it was. As far as NYC kitchens come, it is spacious, but it is not open and I can't do the Rachel Ray thing around the island.

SOOOO, we are going to re do it. The plan is to knock down part of the wall that separates the kitchen and the hallway and put in an island. EXCITING!

I'm in the very beginning stages of scoping out contractors (talk about unknown territory) and putting together ideas. I've run into so many horrific, gaudy styles on both the traditional and super modern ends of the spectrum that it has been easier to determine what I don't want.

In terms of what I do want, my thoughts so far include:

1. A Butcher block/wood top island

2. White tile backsplash/wall

3. Hanging glass pendant lights w/ filament bulbs over the island

4. (In my dreams) A Big Chill Fridge

Zach described it as minimalist modern country kitchen. I think that fits. 

Mohawk

I got one. Or a faux hawk. My hairdresser gave me one while my glasses were in my lap. He picks the cut. Even when I tell him what I want, he picks the cut. Good thing he is a genius with scissors. 

Four days and two new products later, I'm loving it. Channeling Rhianna, Robyn and a little Andy Warhol.
